What is the purpose of the 1GB USB Flash Drive memory stick? Since the Viewsat 9000 HD has a USB ports built in, we recommend that you purchase the 1GB memory stick to make the firmware and channel list upgrades much easier. Other models that do not have the USB port built in to it can be frustrating having to disconnect the receiver from the entertainment center and TV and then bring the receiver to the computer room for an upgrade. Now you can save the FTA factory bin file right onto the memory stick and then plug it into the receiver. It's a simple process in the onscreen menu to upgrade from USB memory stick. Now you can leave your receiver connected to your TV full time and avoid possible damage to the receiver or satellite dish by unplugging and plugging in the wires on the receiver.

We recommend having one USB Flash Drive memory stick for the receiver alone because if you were to accidentally upload a different document other than the FTA factory bin file you will damage the receiver.
